Family Friendly Float Trip

Jun 4 2011 - 9:00am
Jun 4 2011 - 2:30pm

On Saturday, June 4, we’ll float from the Sugar Creek Campground in Crawfordsville to the Bachner Nature Reserve. We’re paying the rental fees for the first 20 participants, so this is the perfect chance for your family and friends to enjoy a no-cost activity on Sugar Creek. The trip is about 8 miles long and will include a lunch break near the Rock River Landing/Crawfordsville Rails-to-Trails access site.

If you want to bring your own canoe or kayak, we will work with you to organize a shuttle. This float trip is open to the public, so please help us spread the word.

Since this is a family-friendly event, we ask that you do not bring alcoholic beverages, glass bottles, or flip-flops. The latter will keep your feet safe and ensure that I don’t have to go swimming after your favorite sandal when it goes floating by my kayak.

We’re asking for everyone who plans to attend to RSVP by May 28. You can do this by calling Jim Suren at 765-918-2716. You can also comment on this post if you would like more information. Only the first 20 participants will float for free, so RSVP today!

The planned time schedule looks like this:
9:00 – 9:30 Unload at Sugar Creek Campground
9:30 – Shuttle private boats to Bachner Nature Reserve
10:15 — Safety Talk and Start
2:30 - Estimated Finish

Unlike our clean-ups, the float trip is highly dependent on the weather. If the water level is too high or lightning threatens, we will cancel the trip without hesitation. This is another reason the RSVPs are important--so we can call to let you know that you can sleep in!
